The flags or squares of colr made a formal complication of the space.
It seemed to make sense out of Julian's more instinctual space and find a reality of meaning in David Salle's overlays. That was what I was thinking of at the time.
Rene Ricard came in early to see the show he seemed to like it alot.
By this time ideas seemed arcane to the artworld at least on this mythic or formal level. Painting was seen as merely decorative and tasteful.
