1983 Landscape: On the Beach
The performance of the Achilles/ Fires led in some way to think of painting on the beach. I already made smaller plein air type paintings.
I started with stripes and the landscape drawing was an intrusion into or dreaming into with paint. The stripes were abit like Theseus' string, to find ones way back from the Minotaur, pictorially back to the surface.
I was reading Bachelard's Poetics of Space at the time. Pollock was in the fore front of painting still. But the Iliad set a tone for me in it's elemental content or mythology.
